- Preventable Lifestyle risk factors (that can be prevented or changed)
- Lack of physical activity (a sedentary lifestyle).
- Obesity. Or being overweight
- Abdominal fat
- High sodium intake/high salt intake
- Excess alcohol.
- Treatable or partly treatable risk factors:
- High blood fats.
- Diabetes.
- Abdominal fat
- Kidney diseases causing diminished kidney function.
- Fixed risk factors - ones that you cannot alter:
- A family history.
- Age. The older you become, the more likely you are to develop it.
If you have a fixed risk factor, you may want to make an extra effort to tackle any lifestyle risk factors that can be changed to decrease your risk. |
